It’s been a funny old week. On Tuesday I was still on holiday, enjoying Pilates with a sea view at a lovely all-inclusive hotel. I was intending to take my laptop with and work for an hour or so every day as I’m working on visibility for my business. At the last minute I took it out of my bag and decided to leave it at home. And I’m so glad that I did. I came back from holiday refreshed and ready to crack on with growing my business.
Every week I try to share something I’ve learnt that I hope will be of use to you too. While I was away I had a full body massage which really worked deep into my muscles, it certainly wasn’t relaxing! Afterwards I felt so much better, and it was so worth the pain to feel the releases of tension in my body. I’ve continued to push myself out of my comfort zone with my business in a couple of ways this week too.
Firstly, I tackled some tech and did something that I’ve never done before, I set up my business email address. For some of you this may not be too complicated, but it’s one of those things that when you’re an employee is usually done for you.
Not only do I have a sense of achievement, but it’s another step to feeling like a ‘proper’ business. I believe in transparency, and so I’m not going to pretend that I have some slick organisation running here that is making £10k months (not yet!). I consider myself very much in start-up mode, and getting my domain name and email address are a big milestone for me.
If something is holding you back have a go at knuckling down, learning what you need to do and giving it a go. It’s so rewarding.
The second thing I’ve learn this week is patience. As a start-up I’m slowly growing my audience, and having been away for a couple of weeks I feel like I’m getting nowhere fast, despite scheduling content while I’m away. My own business coach tells me to stick at it, as these things take time. Consistency is key, so I’m getting my head down and creating more content.
I’m a committed learner, but as I’ve only been back from holiday for a few days I haven’t done anything to grow my knowledge this week, and I’m missing it. Marketing, especially online, changes so quickly, and I’m learning what works and what doesn’t. It’s no longer a case of throwing out a Facebook ad and getting sales, there’s a whole process of nurturing to go through. I trust that it will take time, but I’ll only see the rewards if I stick at it.
If you’re starting your business, or wanting to grow using online and content marketing, the best advice I can give you is to be consistent. Keep at it, because there’s no magic marketing wand.
